Thelma Bjork Jonsdottir
At a very young age, Thelma took an interest in needlework. She became fascinated with traditions, and under the guidance and influence of her grandmother, Thelma practised and perfected her mentor’s techniques.
Still inspired by needlework, Thelma graduated with a BA in fashion design – she was top of her class at the Iceland Academy of the Arts. While an undergraduate, she attended Studio Berçot in Paris and went on to complete professional training in haute couture, gaining a diploma from Ecole LESAGE (Atelier de Broderie).
In 2005 Thelma launched her label THELMA design, specializing in handmade headpieces and embroidery. She is the firm’s Creative Director.
“When looking through old magazines and books on fashion, I was completely bewitched by the thought of headpieces. What my grandmother taught me became an inspiration, and I have kept on working from there …” - Thelma
